Embracing Unpredictable Weather: Capturing Beautiful Moments in Southern Utah's June Skies

June in Southern Utah usually brings warm sunshine and clear skies, perfect for outdoor photography sessions. This year, the weather had other plans on Cedar Mountain. The temperature dropped unexpectedly, and clouds rolled in, creating a cooler atmosphere than anticipated. While some might see this as a challenge, it actually opened up new creative opportunities and gorgeous lighting!
Finding Beauty in Cloudy Skies
Cloudy weather often gets a bad reputation among photographers and clients alike. Many expect bright, sunny days for their photos. But overcast skies can provide soft, even lighting that reduces harsh shadows and highlights. This kind of light is flattering for portraits and brings out natural colors in the landscape.
In Southern Utah, the clouds added a dramatic backdrop to the red rock formations and green foliage. The diffused light made skin tones look smooth and natural, and the cooler temperature kept everyone comfortable during the shoots. Families were able to relax and enjoy the moment without squinting into the sun or overheating.
