As a Cedar City family photographer I often get asked what the perks are to doing a mini session. There are definitely upsides and downsides to choosing a mini session over a full session. If you are wondering what would be best for your family hopefully this will help you decide.
Just to give you a brief overview of what a mini session with me looks like. I usually host a group of 4 mini sessions on the same day in the same location. This allows me to cut the cost of the session so I can offer then at a lower price. That being said I typically choose the date, location, and have 4 time slots available. I only host a handful of mini session days a year, so they usually get filled up rather quickly. Because sessions are back to back your session will start exactly on your time, and run for strictly 30 minutes.
Let's start with the perks to mini sessions. For starters they are 30 minutes long, which usually makes Dad happy 😉 Because they are shorter they are also less expensive than a full session. If all goes well you will be surprised how many photos you can get in 30 minutes.
Now let's talk what the downfalls are to mini sessions, because there are a few. For starters you do not get to choose the date or location of a mini session, but I do host multiple mini session days a year at different locations. Because they are only 30 minutes long there really isn't a lot of time for error. If you have kiddos that take a little while warming up, a mini session may not be a great option. Lastly, you will not receive as many photos as you would during a full session.
If you have any questions regarding the difference between a full session and a mini session please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I would be happy to answer an and all that you have! And as always I would love to work with you and your family! Reach out here and let's capture those memories you will cherish forever!
